About me

A graduate of Yale University, Sohara has combined her passions of environmental advocacy, writing and performing arts for empowerment of the marginalized. she was one of the 11 winners selected from 2000 international applicants for the GCCA Climate Tracker fellowship to attend COP 21, during which she wrote articles on impacts of climate change for various national and international publications. Currently she leads the South Asia Hub of Climate Tracker and helps young South Asian journalists connect and get their articles published on mainstream media.

She also works on building the environmental consciousness of youth to reduce their carbon footprint. In college she performed with Yale’s theater troupes on various plays aimed at raising awareness on social and environmental issues, such as Voices from beyond the Dark. A member of Yale’s jazz acapella group Proof, she has sung in charity concerts in the US, Costa Rica and the UK. Currently she sings with Ghaashphoring choir and works at UNDP for empowerment of climate vulnerable people. In 2016, she won four competitive international fellowships - ASEF Summer University, Mosaic International Leadership Program, MJBear Fellowship and APN SAARC media fellowship - and AEJA’s young environmental journalist of the year award. Sohara is currently serving as the Curator of Dhaka hub.
